Scope
The project involved:
- QuikDeck® suspended platform to provide high-capacity access with minimal suspension points
- Supplementary scaffolding tied into the QuikDeck system
- Full in-house engineering and design services to ensure fast, safe, and efficient installation
- Turnkey solution including assembly and hoisting for blasting and painting works
Challenge
- Limited Suspension Points: Traditional scaffolding or other suspended systems require multiple anchor points, which can obstruct blasting, painting, and touch-up works. QuikDeck’s design reduced the number of suspension points while maintaining full platform capacity.
- Safety and Environmental Control: Work had to be carried out above a tarmac storage area while preventing debris contamination. The platform also needed to allow safe access underneath for other operations.
- Rapid Installation and Reduced Manual Handling: The platform was hoisted into the air to maximise efficiency and minimize labour intensity.
- Cantilever Access: The platform had to extend past the RAT station edge to allow erection of secondary scaffolding and provide two-level access.
Solution
- Pre-Assembled QuikDeck Platform: The starter platform was built on the ground fully loaded with materials, then hoisted into position. This method reduced manual handling and accelerated the installation process.
- Fewer Suspension Points: Chain-suspended QuikDeck allowed anchor points to be easily relocated, facilitating touch-ups without disassembly.
- Cantilevered Extension: Enabled erection of secondary scaffolding for two-level access to the RAT station, serving as the primary entry point.
- Sealed Working Surface: Ensured debris and grit were contained, protecting the surrounding environment and allowing work to continue safely underneath the platform.
- Supplementary Scaffolding: Additional scaffolding integrated seamlessly with the QuikDeck system for enhanced access and operational flexibility.
Result
- Delivered a safe, adaptable access solution for maintenance on a live infrastructure bridge.
