Our Manchester branch successfully delivered the largest QuikDeck® suspended platform installation in Europe at the new Co-op Live Arena. This complex capital project in the Commercial, Arenas & Stadiums sector required a fully integrated access solution to support multiple trades during construction.

Challenge
This landmark project presented several technical and logistical challenges:
- Limited Roof Truss Load Capacity: Roof trusses had strict load limits, making traditional decking systems unsuitable.
- Structural Deflection During Roof Concrete Pour: The platform needed to accommodate truss movement during the concrete pour without affecting structural integrity.
- Simultaneous Work Above and Below: Tight programme requirements meant trades had to work safely on and under the platform at the same time
- Complex Multi-Level Access Needs: The system had to provide safe access for M&E installation, event rigging, painting, and curtain partitioning.
Solution
Our early involvement meant we could collaborate closely with the client to design a bespoke access strategy.
Key elements included:
- Using QuikDeck® with lightweight composite board decking panels, reducing dead weight by half compared to plywood while maintaining full load capacity.
- Chain-suspended platform design to distribute load evenly and suit truss capacity.
- Flexible system capable of managing roof deflection without impacting safety or performance.
- Fully sealed platform enabling uninterrupted work underneath.
- Integrated delivery of QuikDeck®, scaffolding, and hoists for a coordinated, efficient solution.
- BIM clash detection to identify and resolve potential conflicts before they occurred.
- Local branch proximity (10 minutes from site) allowed rapid response and additional scaffolding works.

- Europe’s largest QuikDeck® installation delivered safely, on schedule, and to an exceptionally high standard.
- Multi-trade access achieved above and below the platform, maximising programme efficiency.
