With maintaining traffic flow as a key objective, a high level access scaffold was required, also requiring a clear span of the carriageway.
Scope
The latest phase has seen the completion of a high level access scaffold requiring a clear span of the carriageway, some 22 metres with a 2kN/m2 UDL requested by the client.
Challenge
The key to success was to ensure that the scaffold was erected as efficiently as possible to do this Brand Access Solutions invested in a new heavy duty alloy beam, this enabled the scaffold to free span between the upper chord members of the bridge.
Again blasting, painting and major repairs were the main scope of works but with the emphasis of maintaining traffic flow as much as possible not only on the bridge but also in the town of Runcorn below meaning most of the works was to be carried out at night during partial road closures etc.
Underneath the bridge large birdcage structures extended from the ground up the sides of the bridge, incorporating large double depth beam spans over the minor roads below.
In all, an immensely complex scaffold structure from conception through to completion undertaken by Brand Access Solutions, completed successfully on program.
