Engineered CUPLOK® scaffolding for a five-building residential development in Leeds city centre
The construction of the 665-home Monk Bridge residential development in Leeds required a comprehensive scaffolding solution for five high-rise buildings ranging from 12 to 22 storeys. Brand Access Solutions provided an in-house engineered CUPLOK® access scaffold incorporating the Omega hop-up system, addressing the design, logistical and resource requirements of the large-scale city centre project.
Scope
Monk Bridge is a £105 million residential development located on the former Monk Bridge steelworks site in Leeds city centre, close to Whitehall Road and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Developed on behalf of Highline Investments, the project comprises 665 homes across five residential towers.
Brand Access Solutions, formerly Lyndon SGB, was appointed by main contractor Galliford Try to provide scaffolding and access solutions for the development.
The scope included the in-house design and installation of a detailed CUPLOK® system scaffold incorporating the Omega hop-up system. The access structures were designed to serve all five residential buildings, ranging from 12 to 22 storeys in height.
More than 15 scaffolding operatives were deployed on site, with the works scheduled to run from August 2020 to August 2022.
Challenge
The scale and location of the Monk Bridge development presented significant logistical and technical planning requirements. Situated in a densely developed area of Leeds city centre, the project involved providing scaffolding access across five separate residential towers with varying building heights.
The access solution had to accommodate the different building configurations while meeting the requirements of a large-scale construction programme.
Coordinating scaffold design, installation resources and site logistics across the development was a central challenge. The project required a detailed scaffolding design and the deployment of a substantial on-site workforce over an extended construction period.
Performance
Brand Access Solutions developed the CUPLOK® access scaffolding solution in-house, integrating the Omega hop-up system to accommodate the requirements of the five residential buildings.
The engineered scaffold design provided the planned access arrangement for the different tower heights, while the Leeds-based team supplied the specialist scaffolding resources required for the project.
More than 15 operatives were involved in the scaffolding works, demonstrating Brand Access Solutions' capacity to support a large-scale, multi-building residential development.
The project also highlighted the importance of local engineering expertise and resource coordination in delivering complex scaffolding packages for major city centre construction projects.
