Mast climbing access solution for a major residential development in Glasgow city centre
The construction of the 433-apartment Holland Park residential development in central Glasgow required an efficient vertical access solution for personnel, tools and materials. Brand Access Solutions designed a 40- and 60-metre mast climbing access solution using MC350 and MC650 MASTCLIMBERS™.
Scope
Holland Park is a major residential development in Glasgow city centre comprising 433 private rental apartments.
Brand Access Solutions, formerly Lyndon SGB, was appointed by Robertson Construction to provide mechanical access for the project. The £200,000 MASTCLIMBERS™ contract commenced in January 2022 and was scheduled to run for 40 weeks.
The access solution was designed in-house by Brand Access Solutions and comprised MC350 and MC650 MASTCLIMBERS™ reaching heights of 40 and 60 metres.
Challenge
The construction works required reliable access at different heights while allowing personnel, tools and materials to be transported to the required working levels.
At the same time, the access system needed to minimise obstructions above and below the platforms and keep the building face available for other construction activities.
Brand Access Solutions developed a straightforward mast climbing configuration using MC350 and MC650 units to meet these requirements. The system was operated on site by two operatives.
Performance
The MASTCLIMBERS™ provided vertical access for personnel, tools and materials to the required working levels while minimising obstructions around the platforms and keeping the work face clear for other operations.
With two operatives deployed on the project, the mechanical access solution supported the construction programme throughout the contract period.
According to Brand Access Solutions, the project progressed smoothly, with positive feedback from Robertson Construction. The service and maintenance of the MASTCLIMBERS™ also helped the contractor remain on target with its construction programme.
