Mast climbing work platforms for a 111-metre student accommodation tower
The construction of Altus House, a 111-metre-high, 37-storey student accommodation building in Leeds city centre, required a mechanical access solution for a demanding high-rise construction programme. Brand Access Solutions provided MASTCLIMBERS™ supported by its local scaffolding and engineering teams, with two specialist operatives assigned to the project.
Scope
Altus House is a 37-storey student accommodation development in Leeds city centre, reaching a height of 111 metres.
Brand Access Solutions, formerly Lyndon SGB, was appointed to provide mast climbing work platforms for main contractor RG Group. The access package formed part of a construction programme scheduled to extend over more than a year.
The project involved two specialist MASTCLIMBERS™ operatives, supported by Brand Access Solutions' Leeds scaffolding division and in-house engineering expertise.

Challenge
Providing mechanical access for a 111-metre-high building required careful coordination of the mast climbing work platforms with the high-rise construction programme.
The installation had to meet the main contractor's demanding schedule while accommodating the technical requirements of the building and the ongoing construction activities.
The project was also carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring the teams to operate under additional health and safety measures.
Close cooperation between the mast climbing specialists, the local scaffolding division, site supervision and engineering was essential to addressing the project's technical and operational challenges.
Performance
Brand Access Solutions deployed its specialist MASTCLIMBERS™ team to provide mechanical access for the Altus House development, supported by the company's Leeds scaffolding division.
The project brought together expertise from different disciplines, including mast climbing work platforms, scaffolding and engineering, to address the requirements of the high-rise construction site.
According to the company's Contracts Manager, the project presented technical challenges throughout its delivery. The combined efforts of the installation team, site supervisor, design engineer and local scaffolding specialists contributed to a successful outcome for the access works.
The project demonstrated Brand Access Solutions' capability to coordinate specialist mechanical access and scaffolding expertise on a large-scale high-rise construction development.
